When Katy Rogers joined the C4C Coaching Practitioner Course last year, she couldn’t have predicted how transformative the experience would be. Fast-forward to today, Katy is not only accredited but thriving in her first year as a self-employed coach and facilitator, building a career she loves, filled with variety, purpose and connection.

We caught up with her (on holiday, no less!) to hear how life and business have evolved since completing her training.

A coaching life in full flow

Starting her own coaching business was a bold leap from her previous corporate role. Katy had long used coaching in her own professional development and leadership practice, so she already understood its power, but making it the core of her work was a big step. One year in, she’s loving the flexibility and freedom self-employment brings and is deeply fulfilled by the work she gets to do every day.

Her current portfolio reflects a rich blend of activities: from supporting senior leadership teams with strategy and organisational development, to delivering coaching and leadership programmes across sectors, including public sector organisations like NHS Wales, global companies like GE Aerospace, and SMEs.

“Every week is different,” she says. “One day I’m coaching a senior exec, the next I’m facilitating an early careers workshop, or designing a leadership programme. That variety and the people I get to work with, is what energises me.”

Katy is also passionate about creating space for others to think deeply. “I love that moment when someone shifts, when they connect the dots for themselves. That’s what coaching is about: curiosity, presence and holding space.”

The power of coaching – and real emotion

Reflecting on her experience in the C4C programme, Katy points to the emotional depth of action learning sets, coaching trios, and even a drawing exercise that turned out to be unexpectedly revealing. “It wasn’t just about learning skills. It was about showing emotion, sitting with discomfort, and creating space for reflection, and that really changed how I show up as a coach.”

One key insight that’s stayed with her, especially through ongoing coaching supervision with C4C founder, Linda, is the importance of knowing when to bring your whole self to coaching. “Sometimes it’s about knowing when to take your coaching hat off, to share something from your experience that could help unlock something for someone else.

A coaching toolkit

Coaching isn’t something Katy does only in coaching sessions, it’s the golden thread that runs through everything. Whether she’s running a leadership programme, hosting a team strategy day, or facilitating a group discussion, she brings her coaching mindset to every interaction.

She often starts sessions with something to help people arrive. A coaching game, a reflective prompt, or just a moment to breathe.

Reading the room, responding in the moment, and helping others connect with their own insight, these are the skills Katy draws on constantly, whether she’s working with early careers professionals or senior executives.

Grounding and giving back

We’re thrilled that Katy will be leading a session at the upcoming C4C Confluence event. Her workshop, From Grounded Self to Connected Presence, blends breathwork and gentle movement to help participants re-centre and reconnect. It’s this blend of mind and body, of reflection and action, that defines Katy’s work.

Looking ahead: A life without needing a holiday

As Katy looks ahead to her second year, she’s embracing what’s to come with excitement and openness. Her current proposition continues to evolve around coaching, facilitation, leadership development, and strategic support, all grounded in human connection and purpose. She’s also using the trusted C4C network to collaborate with others and stay inspired.

More than anything, Katy wants to help others unlock their own magic. “My goal is to build a life I don’t need to take a holiday from and to help others do the same. Coaching allows people to grow, to flourish, and to truly see themselves. That’s the magic. And I feel lucky to witness it every day.”

Her advice to future coaches?

“Be open. Be curious. Keep reflecting. And don’t forget to enjoy it.”

Wise words from someone who’s truly walking the talk and loving every step of the journey.
